at the crossroads of
migrating birds from
Europe, Asia and Africa.
Therefore best travel

Bedouin Experience:
The Bedouins are the
people who inhabited
Jordan since thousand of
years. Only a very small
percentage can still be
regarded as nomads, many
have chosen to settle in
one place. Those
Bedouins who still
practice the traditional
lifestyle live in long,
black tents made of goat
and hair cloth, known as
beit al-sha'ar, or
"house of hair".
Bedouins are most famous
for their hospitality.
To get a feeling for
this life spend some
time in Wadi Rum, Dana,
Wadi Arava, where some
of them still live the
traditional way. Ride a
camel, hike with a
Bedouin guide or spend a
night camping with a
Bedouin meal.
Handicraft:
In Jordan you find a
rich cultural heritage
of handicrafts, rooted
in basic living
requirements. Weaving
for tents and rugs,
silver jewelry and
embroidery to display
tribal affiliations and
status. It includes
costumes, accessories,
crafts and home
implements from
Palestine and Jordan
spanning the last one
hundred twenty-five
years.
Jordanian crafts include
beautiful handmade
glass, handy earthenware
vessels, and uniquely
crafted silver jewelry.
Participation in a
handicraft workshop is a
unique way to acquire
new skills. Touring a
selection of handicraft
centers, whether your
interest is in the
production itself or
simply in acquiring a
unique hand-crafted
momento.
Creative new designs are
using the country’s
resources of silver,
copper and semi precious
stones in uniquely
Jordanian pieces.
Mosaics are an
especially suitable
branch of Jordan’s
handicraft heritage. The
country’s intriguing
geology gave early
artisans access to stone
colors. Madaba, home to
the world’s largest
collection of ancient
mosaics, is the leader
in this revived art.
Social Projects:
“Madrasati” – My School
intends to renovate
Jordan’s public schools
and improve the learning
environment. Build a
partnership between
community members and
public and private
institutions, to upgrade
at least 500 of the
Kingdom’s public
schools.
The Theodor Schneller
School Amman was founded
in 1959 as a shelter for
orphans. The guiding
principle of Theodor
Schneller Schools in the
region is to combine a
shelter for orphans with
appropriate educational
facilities. Thus in
Amman, the shelter has
its own school and
vocational training
workshops.
Theodor Schneller School
in Amman serves
marginalized,
underprivileged and
orphaned, boys of the
Jordanian community, as
well as many boys from a
Palestinian refugee
camp. Boys are accepted
according to the
following criteria: Loss
of one or both parents,
boys from socially
troubled homes, and
those who are needy and
underprivileged.
Students are Christian
and Muslim. The
Schneller School
emphasizes tolerance and
mutual understanding and
respect.
Brooke Hospital
Petra:
Our animal health centre
in Petra is the focus of
Brooke’s activity in
Jordan. With only one
mobile team, it is the
smallest of Brooke’s
operations, yet it
provides vital treatment
for many hundreds of
horses and donkeys
working in the area.
The Brooke currently
provides a daily clinic,
a 24-hour emergency
service and a mobile
clinic which visits
Petra, Bedoul and Wadi
Musa several times a
week.
Brooke also works with
the animal owners, local
farriers and government
vets, providing training
and support on animal
welfare issues. The goal
of the Brooke’s
programme in Jordan is
to ensure measurable
improvements are made in
the welfare of working
horses and mules.
Petra:
The Nabatean rock city
Petra is one of the New
Seven Wonders of the
World and enchants
visitors around the
globe. Petra, where
ancient Eastern
traditions blend with
Hellenistic
architecture, is one of
three Jordanian sites
listed on UNESCO’s World
Heritage List.
Half-built, half-carved
into the rock,
surrounded by mountains
riddled with passages
and gorges, it counts
among the world's most
famous archaeological
sites.
Umm Ar Rasas:
The UNESCO World
Heritage Site Umm Ar
Rasas is worth a visit
due to the Byzantine
mosaic floor of the
Church of St Stephen.
sThe archeological site
contains ruins from the
Roman, Byzantine, and
early Muslim
civilizations. The
majority of the site has
not been excavated.
Among the portions
excavated so far include
a military camp, and
several churches.
Interesting to see is a
15 meter high Byzantine
tower, built by early
Christian monks. Two
square towers are
probably the only
remains of the stylites
practice, ascetic monks
who spent time in
isolation atop a column
or tower. Umm Ar Rasas
is listed as UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
Qasr Al Amra:
Qasr Amra is the most
charming of the desert
castles due to its
fresco paintings. Built
by caliph Walid I as a
bathhouse, it consists
of three different
chambers and a hydraulic
structure for the water
supply. The most
impressing are the early
Islamic frescoe
paintings with varied
iconographic themes
depicting hunting and
bathing scenes,
musicians and dancers.
They represent the
formative stage of
Islamic art and
therefore Qasr Amra is
listed as an UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
Dead Sea:
The World’s largest spa!
The warm, soothing,
salty water itself – ten
times saltier than sea
water, is rich in
chloride salts of
magnesium, sodium,
potassium and bromine.
The health effects of
this special area was
known since antiquity,
it was one of the first
spas in the world. Herod
the Great, king of
Judaea, already used it
in the 1st century BC as
health treatment, as
well as the Egyptian
Queen, Cleopatra. The
Nabateans discovered the
value of bitumen
extracted from the Dead
Sea an needed by the
Egyptian pharaohs for
embalming mummies. Today
the Dead Sea is an
attraction for health
and leisure tourism.
Several hotels with spa
and fitness facilities
are gathered at Sweimeh.
Public beaches also
providing showers and
restaurant to enjoy some
hours at the lowest spot
on earth.
Hammamt Ma’in:
Hammamat Ma'in is
another favored spot,
with a hot waterfall,
thermal springs, and a
full complement of
resort facilities. Lying
264-meters below sea
level, making it a
destination of choice
for those seeking the
perfect retreat to relax
and be pampered whilst
enjoying the therapeutic
benefits of Ma’In hot
spring waterfalls.,
where people have come
for thermal treatments
or simply to enjoy a hot
soak, since the days of
Rome..
Hot Air Balloon:
A unique experience in
WadiRum that will make
you feel you are in a
different planet. The
beautiful moonlike
landscape is absolutely
breathtaking. Feel the
joy on Hot Air Balloon
begining at dawn (5:00am
summer 6: 30 winter)
lasts up to an hour and
a half (depending on
conditions - minimum
45minutes). This
required to be pre
booked like atleast a
day before if the
weather permits.
Sky Diving:
Tandem jumping is the
easiest way to get an
introduction to
skydiving with minimal
training. It takes
approximately one hour
from start to finish for
your first parachute
jump. Tandem parachuting
is done from 10,000 feet
and takes place at Aqaba
or Wadi Rum. The whole
event should normally
take no more than 1
hour. This is a weather
dependant sport and if
weather conditions are
not acceptable, the jump
will not take place.
On your tandem jump, you
will be hooked to a
highly qualified
instructor for the
entire skydive. You will
exit at an altitude of
10,000 feet, followed by
a 30 second freefall. At
5,000 feet, your
instructor will deploy
the parachute, and you
will then begin the
peaceful parachute
decent and enjoy the
beautiful views.
It's an experience you
will never forget.
Microlight Flying:
Enjoy the pilot
experience in Wadi Rum
which takes 1 passenger
at a time. Passengers
are taken on a tour of
Wadi Rum for various
times of their choice,
from a 10 minute flight
or for up to an hour.
With this lightweight
aircraft you will cruise
at speeds of 80 to 90
km/h at altitudes of
1000-1200 meters which
is ideal to take superb
photos of the beautiful
rock formations and sand
dunes.
Although flying is
considered an extreme
sport, you do NOT need
extra insurance in order
to try a microlight
flight in Wadi Rum.
This activity is also a
weather dependant!
Horse and Camel
Riding:
An authentic and special
experience to explore
parts of Jordan is a
trip on horse or camel
back. In general horse
and camel rides are
possible in southern
Jordan:
-
within the desert of
Wadi Rum,
-
between Petra and
Wadi Rum,
-
from Wadi Rum to
Aqaba.
Usually we combine
theses tours with
attractions in Jordan or
after the ride with some
days for leisure at the
Red Sea (see the
suggested tour below).
General Information
Needless to say but
during your trip in the
desert we provide you
with all meals and you
will sleep in camps. The
group will be escorted
by Bedouins incl. a cook
caring for traditional
meals. During the rides
your luggage, the
camping equipment, food,
beverage and horse or
camel supplies are
transferred by jeeps.
Depending on terrain and
weather we ride 5 to 6
hours a day. 2.5 to 3
hours we ride in the
morning and after a
copious lunch break 2 to
3 hours in the
afternoon. In that time
you are expected to care
for your camel
respectively your horse.
And don’t worry about
the hygiene, we provide
you with water for
showering every day.
Useful for your desert
stay are a sleeping-bag,
a hat, sunglasses, sun
cream, easy trekking
shoes, covering clothes,
a rucksack and a torch.
Bear in mind warm
clothes as the night can
become cold in the
desert.
Horse or Camel?
The Arabian horses are
strong and well cared.
You have to be an
experienced rider and be
able to control the
horse. In contrast to a
horse no training is
necessary to ride a
camel. The experienced
Bedouin guides in Wadi
Rum provide reliable and
friendly camels. Short
treks for some hours up
to longer treks, lasting
several days, can be
arranged.
Petra by Night:
Its quite popular to
say, Petra would not be
complete unless you
experience the event

event is one of the
highlights of Petra! A
