Petra By Night
Experience the magic of
the red-rose city Petra
in the night! You walk
through the mysterious
Siq, the narrow canyon,
only lit by candles and
the stars, and in front
of the Treasury you
listen to Bedouin music
and stories. The special
aura of this evening
puts you into Nabataean
times. The excursion
departs from the Petra
Visitor's Center every
Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday evening at 8:30
PM and lasts around two
hours. The fee is 12 JD,
ca. 17 USD, per person.
Children under 12 years
of age are free of
charge.
The Roman Army and
Chariot Experience -
Jerash
Jerash is the only place
in the world where Roman
army, gladiators and
chariot racing
performances can be
experienced in an
authentic setting, in
the Hippodrome. This
show consists of some 40
gladiators engaging in
ancient battle tactics,
fighting and competing
in chariot races. From
Saturday to Thursday
daily shows at 11 AM and
2 PM, on Friday one show
at 10 AM, on Tuesday the
event doesn't take
place. The fee is 12 JD,
ca. 17 USD, per person.
Children between 5 to 12
years pay 2 JD.
Amman Summer Festival,
8-24 July 2009
The Amman Summer
Festival takes place at
Hussein Park and is
characterized by local
and international
participants. Visitors
will be entertained by
music bands, popular
dances, a circus show,
acrobatic performances,
puppet theatre,
gymnastic games and a
handicraft market.
Jordan Festival
(formerly Jerash
Festival), 7 July - 8
August 2009
The month-long Jordan
Festival takes place all
over Jordan, like in
Amman, Jerash, Irbid, at
Dead Sea and in Petra.
With 270 activities
visitors find various
performances like
singing, music, theatre
performance, visual art,
poetry, folklore
performance, and
handicrafts art.
International artists
from 43 countries take
part including Cuba,
China, India, Sri Lanka,
USA, European and Arab
countries.
Petra Marathon,

Runners can look forward
to the first Petra
Marathon, a challenging
course through a unique
landscape. The route
passes the carved
monuments like the
Treasury and the
Monastery before it
turns out of Petra and
goes through the
mountain scenery.
Jordan Short Film
Festival, 10-14 November
2009
In 2009, it is the 5th
time the Jordan Short
Film Festival (JSFF)
will take place with
events such as
filmmaking workshops,
discussion panels,
meetings of filmmakers,
and of course the Arab
and International film
competitions. The
festival is Jordan's
only independent
competitive
international short film
festival, with the goal
to promote artistic
freedom of expression
and intercultural
understanding.
Jordan International
Rally, 1-4 April 2010
The Jordan International
Rally entails
challenging routes in
and around the Jordan
Valley and within the
Rumman forests. In 2010
Jordan welcomes for the
2nd time the
FIA World Rally
Championship, attracting
thousands of spectators
to watch the world’s
best drivers.
Amman Dead Sea Ultra
Marathon, 9 April 2010
Participants of the
Amman Dead Sea Ultra
Marathon, start in Amman
and make their way down
to the lowest point on
Earth, the Dead Sea. The
marathon is a fund
raising event for the
Society for Care of
Neurological Patients,
which provides
neurological patients
with medical aid and
covers the costs of
surgeries for the needy.
In 2009, around 4100
runners from 48
nationalities went
through this test of
endurance.
Distant Heat, July 2010
Distant Heat is an
annual concert and dance
festival held in Wadi
Rum and Aqaba. The fun
begins with a party of
electronic dance music
in the spectacular
desert of Wadi Rum. The
festival continues with
beach and pool parties
at the Red Sea resort of
Aqaba. |
